Welcome to Magic 98.3’s What Are Talking About! Every weekday at 9:10 am, Joel and Maryann In The Morning discuss the latest trends, breaking news, and so much more.
While many of us have seemingly countless “friends” on social media, when it comes to real life, the number is more like under a dozen.
That’s the result of a survey commissioned by ABC News’ parent company, Disney: It shows the average adult has 10 good friends — with at least one dating back to when they were both 6 years old.
The survey group OnePoll surveyed 2,000 Britons and also found the average friendship lasts for 17 years. That said, 17% say they’ve had the same best friend for over 30 years.
The survey also noted that the average person spends over 2,000 nights out “over the lifetime of a friendship” and spends 39,000 hours laughing with their pals.
On average, they’ve shared 630 secrets with their closest companions, to boot.
Other treasured qualities respondents noted in a good friend were being a good listener, giving honest advice on their clothing, and, of course, being able to make them laugh.
Survey questions, methodology, and results have not been verified or endorsed by ABC News.
25 Memorable TV Friend Groups
First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt said: “Many people will walk in and out of your life, but only true friends will leave footprints in your heart.” The sentiment sums up how we feel about our treasured friends—the real ones and the fictional ones we’ve fallen in love with on TV. Who wouldn’t want to hang out at Central Perk and grab a cup of coffee with your buddies from “Friends”? And of course, you’re always in for an eventful night of fun with the ladies of “Sex and the City.”
To celebrate the joys of friend circles, Stacker thought it would be fun to do a slideshow on memorable TV friend groups. So we perused the most popular television shows and assembled a list of 25, with each series presented in chronological order based on the premiere date.
Whether you watched “Gossip Girl” to expose the mysterious blogger or waited every week to see Jerry, Elaine, George, and Kramer do nothing in New York, you will have a great time clicking through our slide. After taking a trip down memory lane with your pals, grab the remote for a night with your favorite friends.
Meet Maryann, who has been chasing magic since the early 90s. Back then, she hosted a love and dedication show at nights on Magic. Talk about romantic vibes! Since then, she traded her evening slot for mornings. When she’s not talking to you on the air, she’s living the glamorous life of a chicken, duck, pigeon, and German Short-Haired Pointer mom. Since Joel can never follow what she says, there is an entire feature called " What are you Talking About" at 9:10. Running is her secret to staying out of trouble – or at least staying ahead of the extra pounds. She has a husband named Matt, and a son named Zack, who she says makes her world a little adventure.
