New York / New Jersey Confirmed To Host FIFA World Cup 2026
It was made official today that New York and New Jersey will in fact host the FIFA World Cup in 2026 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford.
The 48-team tournament will overall be hosted by three nations, a first for the FIFA World Cup. In total, 16 host cities were announced, eleven from the USA, three from Mexico, and two from Canada.
“The host cities will be absolutely key to ensuring the successful delivery of the competition. We look forward to working with them to deliver what will undoubtedly be the largest FIFA World Cup in history,” said FIFA’s Chief Tournaments & Events Officer, Colin Smith in a press release.
New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy and former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio had hosted officials from FIFA including Vice-President and Concacaf President Victor Montagliani and Colin Smith back in September of 2021 following their presentation of the joint bid.
