New Jersey Dad Sentenced To 30 Years For Killing His Ex Girlfriend And More
Tyler Rios of East Orange, New Jersey was sentenced to 25 years in prison for killing the mother of his 2-year-old son and an additional 5 years for desecrating her human remains. According to the Union County Prosecutors Office, the incident took place in July of 2021 and started a widely broadcasted Amber Alert which helped discover the body of his ex in Tennessee.
When the son did not show up for school on the morning of July 9th of 2021 and the mother never showed up for her scheduled day at work, Rios became the main suspect in foul play. Once authorities were notified of the two is missing, the Amber Alert was sent out throughout New Jersey and other states. Thanks to the help from police forces throughout the country, the young boy was found unharmed in Tennessee on July 10th but his mother was found off the road of Interstate I-40, dead. Rios was taken into custody later that day.
After the autopsy was done, it was concluded that the victim died from strangulation and blunt force trauma and it was later discovered that she was murdered in her home located in Rahway, New Jersey. Rios then put her in the trunk of his vehicle, which he drove to Tennessee, and was captured.
Tyler Rios must serve 85% of the 25-year sentence for manslaughter before the possibility of parole, but then he must serve the additional 5 years before being eligible for release.
