FUN FACT: Cinco De Mayo commemorates the anniversary of Mexico’s victory over the French Empire at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. It is NOT “Mexican Independence Day,” which is celebrated in September.
Cinco de Mayo is one of the biggest beer-drinking holidays behind Father’s Day, the Fourth of July and Labor Day. It’s popularity jumped when beer companies leveraged in it’s aggressive marketing campaigns. Cinco de Mayo is more popular in the US than in Mexico.
80% of the avocados grown in the U.S. come from California. It takes 72 gallons of water to grow a pound of avocados. Prices for avocados grown in Mexico remain high because of drug cartels, who extort farmers.
