Sales of This Type Of Food Reach Record High of $7.4 Billion in 2021
Sales of plant-based food grew three times faster than sales of all other food combined in 2021, according to the Plant Based Foods Association. Retail sales of the food alternative grew 6.2 percent last year, bringing the total market value of plant-based food to $7.4 billion — a new record, data from the PBFA reveals. “The sustained rise in the market share of plant-based foods is remarkable, and makes it clear that this shift is here to stay,” says PBFA Director Julie Emmett. “More and more consumers are turning to plant-based options that align with their values and desire to have a positive impact on personal and planetary health.”
I don’t know about you, but I’ve been gravitating to the oat and almond based milk section of the grocery store which appears to be the largest category in the plant-based market. Forty-two percent of households purchase plant-based milk. Not surprising, plant-based burgers continue to lead the plant-based meat category.
