Britney Spears’ Father Jamie Wants To End Conservatorship
In a shocking development in Britney Spears’ conservatorship case, her father is not only asking to leave Britney’s conservatorship, but he’s asking the judge to terminate it altogether.
In documents filed by Jamie Spears, acquired by gossip website TMZ, he says since the judge saw fit to let his daughter hire her own lawyer, Jamie believes there is no longer a legal basis to continue with the restrictions that go along with the conservatorship.
Jamie acknowledged in the docs that Britney requests the conservatorship to be terminated without medical evaluation, since there is no requirement under California law for one.
The 13-year-long conservatorship has changed “to such an extent that grounds for establishment of a conservatorship may no longer exist,” Jamie says. He went on to say that he only wants the best for his daughter, and if she wants out of the conservatorship she deserves the chance to make decisions for her own life.
Jamie says, “Ms. Spears has told this Court that she wants control of her life back without the safety rails of a conservatorship. She wants to be able to make decisions regarding her own medical care, deciding when, where and how often to get therapy.”
“She wants to control the money she has made from her career and spend it without supervision or oversight,” he continued. “She wants to be able to get married and have a baby, if she so chooses. In short, she wants to live her life as she chooses without the constraints of a conservator or court proceeding.”
On September 29, there is a hearing set in which Jamie was supposed to step down as conservator of Britney’s estate, but according to these new documents, he wants to quickly end the process of the conservatorship in its entirety.
