Somerset Patriots To Honor Veterans August 15th Game
Bridgewater, NJ – The Somerset Patriots, the New York Yankees Double-A affiliate, will host their 18th Annual Veterans of America Day at TD Bank Ballpark on Sunday, August 15th. The pre-game program will begin at 4:00 pm, with gates opening at 3:30 pm for the 5:05 pm game against the Portland Sea Dogs (Boston Red Sox).
Veterans will receive complimentary tickets to the game with discounted $5.00 upper box tickets for their guests. Free veterans tickets are available at the box office of the ballpark or by calling (908) 252-0700.
The pre-game ceremony is designed to thank the men and women that served in the United States Armed Forces. The program will honor the memories of John D. LeGates and Frosty Lawson.
LeGates was a Vietnam veteran in the United States Army 111th Engineer Company. He was also the President of VVA 452 and a lieutenant in the East Orange Police Department. Frank Prevete, the President of VVA 452, and LeGates brother Frank will speak in his honor.
Lawson was an Honorary Marine that always put veterans first. He was a proud performer for 17 years at the Veterans of America Day celebrations. Lawson passed away from complications due to cancer in August of 2020. Lawson will be represented by his wife Sandy and daughter Morgan and Justine.
There will be a veterans march to start the ceremonies led by the color guard from Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 233 and the rifle squad from MCL Basilone Attachment.
Veterans of America Day will feature a flyover by World War II planes over the ballpark. The team will also host a 50/50 at the game to benefit Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 452.
Have a veteran or first responder that you’d like us to honor at the ballpark this season?
