Singapore Approves Sale of Lab-Grown Meat
In what amounts to good news for the world’s cows and chickens, Singapore has become the first country in the world to approve the sale of lab-grown meat. The “meat,” produced by the San Francisco company Eat Just Incorporated, is created from cultured chicken cells that are placed in a bioreactor. The bogus meat will first debut as chicken bites in Singapore restaurants before the product is expanded to dining and retail establishments, CEO Josh Tetrick says. “We’ve been eating meat for many hundreds, thousands of years, always needing to kill an animal to eat,” Tetrick says, “until now.”
