In an effort to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus, the mayor of a New Jersey city has placed a 10 p.m. curfew on all bars and clubs.

Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop said all drinking establishments within city limits are required to abide by the temporary curfew, which will go into effect on Saturday (March 14).

“Bottom line is we are going to be proactive as opposed to reactive being that we are in uncharted territory,” Fulop says. “All guidance is to limit large groups/contact so we will do what is needed on best practice to protect residents.”

The declaration follows the cancellations of all city-sponsored events and meetings. While there have been no confirmed cases of coronavirus in Jersey City, there have been 23 in the state and it is a global pandemic.
