Could Alex Rodriguez be the next owner of the New York Mets? Reports emerged today (February 14) after multiple sources revealed to the New York Post that the former Yankees star and businessman is a potential suitor.

The news comes after billionaire hedge fund manager, Steve Cohen, walked away from a deal for 80 percent of the team at $2.6 billion. According to the New York Post, “Cohen has not yet fully given up on his chances of purchasing the Mets” and “rumors of A-Rod’s interest have intensified.”

“The Mets are thought to be alerting prospective buyers of their demands in the coming days, expected to be around $3 billion without the toxic five-year transfer window or the team cable TV station SNY,” the New York Post stated.

A-Rod has yet to comment on the reports, however, the outlet says it will be a “longshot” for him to move forward with purchasing the Mets. The 44-year-old would be required to put together an ownership group consisting of wealthier investors aside from himself.
