Veronica “Ronnie” Backenstoe of Wernersville, Pennsylvania has been a member of the Girl Scouts since 1932. Today, at the age of 98, she is still going strong and continuing her mission of selling the organization’s signature cookies.
Backenstoe started with the Girl Scouts at the age of 10 when boxes of cookies were sold for just 15 cents. According to WFMZ-TV, the proud Girl Scout and her journey has taken her from coast to coast, however, her mission remains the same.
“I think that it was just part of living, and that’t what really girl scouting is, it teaches you how to live,” Backenstoe told WFMZ-TV.
Wearing her green beret and Girl Scout uniform is a way of life for Backenstoe. The troop is scheduled to return to sell Girl Scout cookies on February 25 at Phoebe Berks Retirement Community where she resides.
