Jussie Smollett Returns to Instagram Months After Alleged Attack
Jussie Smollett has made his return to Instagram, posting for the first time since before the January incident where he claimed he was attacked by masked men.
The former Empire star posted on Monday, sharing a clip to celebrate Pride Month.
The clip features playwright and screenwriter Tarell Alvin McCraney, famous for writing Choir Boy and the play that inspired Barry Jenkins’ film Moonlight.
“The bodies that uphold the great legacy of spirituals are often Black and queer,” McCraney says in the clip, taken from his Tony Awards speech. “When will we love all of them for who they are, not just for what they can do?”
Underneath the clip, Smollett wrote: “So much PRIDE.”
Smollett has been mostly quiet on social media and in public since the incident, and the ensuing legal issues he has faced after he was arrested and charged with 16 felony counts. All charges were later dropped, but Smollett is still engaged in legal battles with the city of Chicago.
Smollett did not allow comments on the post.
