Heard good things about the keto diet? Before you start any diet, it is important to get the facts from a reliable, third-party source to weigh the pros and cons. Here are some pointers on Keto, courtesy of Harvard Health:

  • It's not just low-carb. It's virtually no carb. It requires you to consume no more than approximately 20-50 grams of carbohydrates per day. One apple has 25 carbs.
  • Eating too much protein can interfere. Fat needs to provide as much as 90 percent of calories.
  • There are published risks to this diet. It isn't the type of diet you try for a week, as it takes time for the body to adjust to getting its energy from ketone bodies produced by the liver from stored fat. It also increases bad cholesterol and can result in nutrient deficiency.

These are just a handful of points to consider if you want to evaluate the keto diet as a possibility for you. Knowledge is power!
