We’re past Easter, which means it’s time to start thinking about that Memorial Day weekend beach trip. If you’re looking to trim down over the next few weeks, here are four tips from the archives:
News flash: Memorial Day weekend is about 30 days away. It’s time for all of us to wake out of our Easter ham coma and start tuning up for summer. While you go frantically plug in the treadmill, here is a little spark for your metabolism that should help you lose five pounds right off the bat by the time the bathing suit calls, courtesy of U.S. News and World Report:
- Drop your daily drinks. Those extra calories are adding up to 200 calories or more a day (a can of soda can easily do that alone, never mind a sugary and fattening latte)
- Swap your snack. This isn’t about ditching the snack, but trading it for almonds, Greek yogurt or fruit
- Change out processed foods for fruits and vegetables. Replace bread with broccoli, or granola bars for green beans. Well, maybe not that last one, but you get the point
- Move at least 20 minutes more each day. Even if you’re cranking out 30 minutes on the treadmill religiously, add a 20-minute walk around the neighborhood after dinner. You’ll be surprised at the results
