The last couples of days left us skating across the driveway and sidewalks. Ice has always been a challenge.  Most of us don’t have bags of salt on hand. Here are a couple of quick de-icing tips using products you probably have in your pantry.

  1. Try making your own de-icing solution by mixing 1 teaspoon of dish detergent, 1/4 cup of rubbing alcohol,  1/2 gallon of hot water. After you mix it well, pour the solution on your driveway or sidewalk.
  2. Cover the driveway or sidewalk with sand on top of the ice for traction.
  3. Spread ashes from your fireplace, sugar, or beet juice as other alternatives to salt.
