Today marks the 17th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., and the plane crash in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Nearly 3,000 people were killed in the terror attacks. In New Jersey, there are over 150 memorials statewide from gardens to parks and plaques to statues. The “Empty Sky” memorial at Liberty State Park in Jersey City is the State’s official memorial that honors the memory of the 746 New Jersey residents that lost their lives at the World Trade Center.
We would like to remember the victims, the heroes, the Armed Forces and emergency responders. We would also like to honor those currently serving in the military, both abroad and here at home. For everyone who had their lives changed forever on this day, families, friends, and loved ones, let's light a candle and display our American Flag proudly today.
