Great News For Holiday Travelers Who Use Amtrak
The holidays are here! For those who have family far away, this time of year can be a hassle.
If you travel by Amtrak, we have some great news for you! They are planning on transforming their infrastructure to a high-tech and high-speed line. According to Thrillist, this is all due to a “$2.45 billion loan from the federal government”.
If you live in the New York City area, you understand that this news come with some negativity. There are already a huge slew of problems with the train lines. So, we can only hope that this is going to improve the problems in the long run.
Amtraks announced in a press release that they will be replacing trains in Amtrak’s Acela Express service along the Northeast Corridor line. The company is hoping to have all these new trains up and running by 2021.
All trains will travel around 160mph and will have a bunch of different amenities. Customers will have WiFi, outlets, USB ports, reading lights, new interiors, premium series and more. In the video, it looks as though there will also be a high-end lounge where you can get up, stretch and grab a drink.
Amtrak will also spend a portion of the loan in improving transit hubs. They are hoping to improve infrastructure in NYC’s and DC’s station. For those who have to experience Penn or Union Station on a daily basis, you understand how refreshing this news is. Yes, it may be a little hectic while they are replacing the trains, but we are sure the pay off will be great.
There is currently no word on if the upgrades will be increasing ticket prices. We hope tickets won’t increase! Hopefully, with the upcoming changes, the future of holiday transit will be comfortable and smooth.
