Facebook Enacts Safety Check For Berlin In Time Of Crisis

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the people in Berlin who were affected by a vehicle that drove into a crowd at the Christmas Market in the German capital.

As it has done during previous tragedies, Facebook has launched a Safety Check page for today’s bus attack in a holiday market in Berlin, Germany.

The page is an easy way if you, family or friends are near a major crisis to let people know that you're safe and check to see if they're safe as well.

According to Facebook, the page provides three key Safety Checks:

  • Check Notifications - If it looks like you may be near a major crisis, we'll ask if you're safe.
  • Say You're Safe - If you're OK, click or tap the "I'm Safe" button to let friends and loved ones know right away.
  • Check on Others - We'll let you know when friends say they're safe. You can also check a list of friends who may be affected by the disaster.
