I saw my good friend Myra over the weekend, and we got to talking about shows we want to see this summer.
She lives in NC, and I obviously live here, so our conversation quickly went from shows to the venues we like to see our faves perform in!
Here's my Top 5, followed by hers!
Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank: This venue is the perfect blend of old and new, and no matter where you sit, the acoustics are perfect. I love the staff and the feeling of being so close to the stage (no matter where you sit)!
The Count Basie Theatre
State Theatre New Jersey: Same reasons as Count Basie--it has rich history and you can't beat the sound--plus, not a bad seat in the house!
State Theatre, New Jersey
Madison Square Garden: While most will say it's a big venue and you don't feel close to the stage, I love it, and when an artist that I admire gets to perform there, I always feel so happy for them to be on that iconic stage. Will never tire of the Garden!
Madison Square Garden
Beacon Theatre, NYC: A fave for the rich history, the sound, the staff, and how despite it being modernized a bit, it still retained a lot of the artwork and fixtures on the walls. Not a bad seat in the house, either!
Webster Hall, NYC: If I had to pick a venue where you stand to see a show, this is it. You can get close to the stage, go upstairs, and who doesn't love a unisex bathroom? I've seen so many bands and artists going back to when it was The Ritz!
That was mine, now here's Myra's pick of venues.
