Not only is today March 1st, but it's also National Peanut Butter Day!
According to the folks over at National Peanut Board, Dr. John Harvey Kellogg, yup the same guy that started Kelloggs cereal patented a process for creating peanut butter from raw peanuts in 1895. He marketed it as a healthy protein substitute for patients without teeth.
In 1903, Dr. Ambrose Straub of St. Louis, Missouri, patented a peanut-butter-making machine.
The folks over at Food Reference.com claim we Americans eat about 700 million pounds of peanut butter each year.
Let's face it, we love peanut butter.
Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwiches, Peanut Butter and Chocolate, Peanut Butter and Bananas, Peanut Butter and Bacon on toast, and while in South Carolina recently, I had a Peanut Butter and Bacon Burger, which sounds strange, but was awesome.
