According to The Wrap, Dr. Luke might finally be getting the ax.
A year ahead of his contract expiration, Dr. Luke, AKA Lukaz Gottwald might finally being booted off of Sony's umbrella.
Since the #FreeKesha movement and controversy surrounding Kesha's accusations of sexual assault from Dr. Luke, many have stood next to Kesha and have even gone far enough to express their experiences of his character. Lady Gaga, Adele, and Kelly Clarkson, as well as Taylor Swift have all stood with Kesha on the issue in one way or another.
The Wrap says that a Sony Spokesperson declined to comment, and nobody has heard back from Dr. Luke's team either.
Initially, the court ruled that Kesha was to stay put under the umbrella, and that it was corporately irresponsible to break the contract.
The Wrap also shares that "It’s currently unknown how Sony intends to free itself from the relationship, a decision that would fall on CEO Doug Morris and his boss, Sony Entertainment CEO Michael Lynton. Any unilateral dissolution of the contract would be a direct breach, so a negotiated exit would be most likely to save face on both sides."
Regardless of the court's decision, Dr. Luke has been fried and tried by the Court of Twitter, and the allegations laid against him have pretty much taken an ax and given his career forty whacks.
Logically, after that many artists standing with Kesha on her allegations, and not having nice things to say about Dr. Luke on their own accord, it would seem as if Sony doesn't want to be associated with that sort of headache any longer.
