Summer is here. But before you hit the beach, the park, or the pool, take precaution.
We all know sunburn can be painful but it can also lead to dry skin, wrinkles, and worse.
Skin cancer is the nation's most commonly occurring form of cancer but can be avoided by following a few simple steps.

Top 10 Tips for absorbing rays safely!

10. Check the UV Index for Your Area
The UV Index provides a daily forecast of the expected intensity of UV radiation from the sun. It can usually be found in the newspaper or news broadcasts, or online here.

9. Seek the Shade
Peak hours for the sun are between 10am and 2pm. Grab an umbrella or a palm tree, and minimize your sun exposure during that time frame.

8. Apply your Sunblock Before you Head Out
Use sunscreen with a SPF of 15 or higher. Slather on sunscreen 30 minutes BEFORE going outside to allow for maximum absorption (and so you don't get sand mixed in for that weird sunblocksand skin abrasion)!

7. Re-Apply After Sweating or Swimming
A hard game of beach volleyball or catching a few waves will diminish the effects of that sunblock you applied before you left the house. Be sure to re-apply every 30 minutes- 2 hours to keep yourself protected.

6. Use Caution with Your Delicate Areas
The ones that see sunlight, that is. Take extra time to cover your lips, nose, and even eyelids. And be sure to cover your ears and the back of your neck.

5. Protect Your Peepers
Don't stare directly into the sun and don't force yourself to squint! Invest in UV Blocking Sunglasses. Look for a label that says “UV absorption up to 400mm,” “Special Purpose” or “Meets ANSI UV Requirements".

4. Check Your Medications
Avoid the sun all together if you are taking a medication that makes your skin extra sun-sensitive. Read the label or check with your doctor if you are not sure about the potential reactions to a medication.
